The Problem: U.S. Cellular is a wireless company with over 450 retail stores spread out across the U.S. There are over 1,200 professional-technical staff at the headquarters in Chicago. Because of this, many employees have never visited a retail store. Understanding the retail experience is key to understanding the business.

The Solution: After surveying a sample of employees, the idea of using technology to bring the retail experience to headquarters was a clear possibility. By using virtual reality, we could scale the experience and house it on our learning management system for anyone to try. We ran a hi-fidelity pilot in Dec. of 2019, and conducted a survey after the user tested the experience on both desktop and Oculus Go goggles.

The Result:

(Quotes below taken from surveys answered by associates):

"It's a good tool for training new associates."

"I enjoyed the opportunity to see what a store looks like, because I have never visited a store."

"I liked the potential use cases that this technology can do."

"Love the concept and hope you plan to introduce more experiences at multiple locations across the organization. This is great."
